St. Vincent's Medical CenterThe 30-bed Family Birthing Center at St. Vincent's is entirely comprised of private rooms and provides a full range of pregnancy services including the capability to handle special needs and cesarean section births.

Located on the entire 5th floor of St. Vincent's, the Center's recently remodeled rooms, situated around a central nursing station, are decorated with signature colors and home-style touches like bright quilts. The comfortable, family-centered design enables the baby to stay in the room with the mother as much as she and the family desire.

Each room has access to the latest medical equipment, which is recessed behind stylish, slide-away panels. During labor doctors use computerized central fetal monitoring to keep close track of the baby's health. The unit also provides state of-the-art infant security system for 24-hours safety for the baby and peace of mind for parents.

  • Private Rooms: Family Birthing Center rooms have soothing, massage showers, a whirlpool bath to aid relaxation, fold-out couches for spouses and significant others

  • Handling Special Needs: Babies born prematurely or with special medical needs get expert help at St. Vincent's Special Care Nursery. From our staff of neonatologists, specially trained doctors and nurses to the most sophisticated medical equipment,

  • Pain Management: Expectant mothers can benefit from doctor-directed pain management or proceed with their delivery without pain medication, using nursing support measures and relaxation techniques. Obstetrically trained anesthesiologists are on hand to provide epidurals and spinal anesthesia. Postpartum discomfort is also addressed to help mothers recover rapidly and comfortably.

  • Breastfeeding Support: St. Vincent's offers prenatal classes on breastfeeding, where one of the areas only board certified lactation consultants and our specially trained nurses help expectant mothers learn the basics. The Birthing Center also offers a breast pump rental service and breastfeeding supplies. Likewise, breastfeeding support groups offers help for new mothers, those with older infants and mothers returning to work.

The St. Vincent's Family Birthing Center staff is comprised of 125 caring professionals who form an expert team with more than 30 affiliated physicians including board certified obstetricians and certified nurse midwives, as well as board certified perinatologists and neonatologists. Forty nurses, all with special training in obstetrics, newborn care and gynecology provide nurturing around-the-clock care. Additionally, more than 50 pediatricians tend to babies born at St. Vincent's.

At St. Vincent's expectant mothers are treated with unrivaled care and new parents are expertly coached in the process of birth. The result is that new mothers and family speak of the calming, caring birthing experience. That's why generations of families are born at St. Vincent's.
